A Little Late, But Worth the Wait

I had emailed several "tech-savvy" teacher friends to gather their ideas and observations regarding tech integration - they didn't get back to me in time for my posting in WebCT, but did finally send me something that I just had to share with you. I'm sure many of you have heard of and may even USE this technology, but I just thought it was the coolest thing I had heard of - part of the 21st Century Classroom. Teachers can use a smartboard in the traditional way, but the students use hand-held "clickers" to respond to teacher questions, "jeopardy" style. The teacher holds a "slate" type computer that records the student responses - who answered first, who answered at all, who got it right and who got it wrong. Now, I know, some of you are saying, that's OLD news - but it's new to me and I just think it is a great way to engage students in a different type of learning while making it fun. I have cited a couple of articles in my "Worth Reading" column that discuss the use of "classroom clickers". Sources: Renaissance Learning Classroom Performance System Classroom Response System

Alice,
thank you for sharing this--because I am just learning about this technology as well! I've read your articles too-so thanks for adding to my technology integration knowledge--much appreciated!

Alice, It isn't exactly old news, but we're used this for a few years at DMS. We use it most often around practice for CRCT time - and the kids who used in the last two years are old pros by now. It's fun to watch how they adapt - and they still love playing it. We have to replace batteries on the clickers about once a year and trouble shooting is a learned skill; still, it holds the kid's attention for a good long while. Thanks, RobertW

...talk about interactive learning! My students would absolutely love using the "clickers." Truly a great tool.
